Whisky Distilleries have spread across Scotland for over a century yet Lerwick Distillery is the very first to bring the production of a Single Malt Scotch to The Shetland Islands. But there’s more to the story, because we discovered that Shetland has the absolute qualities of climate and resources to not just make excellent whisky, but to make a truly remarkable Single Malt.
Our location is Scotland with a difference, 60° North, an oceanic sub-Arctic climate, long mild winters, short cool summers and a perpetual breeze, providing unique, whilst perfect conditions for Scotch maturation. We also have natural rock springs that provide extraordinarily crisp, cool and pure water.
At the helm is our Master Distiller, the legendary Ian Millar, with a lifetime at the forefront of prestige Whisky brands such as Balvenie and Glenfiddich. Ian's on a mission to produce a Shetland Whisky that is premium, distinctive and truly captures the spirit of the Scots/Nørse culture. We're crafting a Scotch like no other, liquid gold at the edge of the world.
