Seaspray sources quality Shetland mussels from two local family owned and run producers: C & A Thomason Ltd. in Yell and Vementry Aquaculture, based in Vementry on the West mainland of Shetland.
The mussels are mainly destined for the premium restaurant and hospitality sector. They are sold throughout the UK and across the Middle East, where they are held in high regard and maintain a strong Shetland brand. Sold under the brand “ShetlandSelect”, each box also bears the name of the local site where they have been harvested. The end product has a unique local provenance, a credit to the dedicated individual farmers who produce them.
Shetland Select mussels are also available locally, through restaurants and stockists such as Scoop Wholefoods in Lerwick. Seaspray plan an expansion in the near future and are looking at opening a Lerwick packing plant where their mussels will also be available for retail purchase.
